My Care
As an independent midwife, I give complete one-to-one care to women and their families from the time they book with me up to the birth of their baby, and for up to four weeks postnatally.
An important part of my role is to provide clear and accurate evidence-based information. This enables couples to make choices which are right for them throughout their journey to parenthood.
Visits are tailored to individual needs, usually in the client's home.
Any screening tests, ultrasound scans or referrals to an obstetrician can be arranged if and when necessary. I have good relationships with NHS colleagues and my aim is always to work in collaboration with other health professionals for the benefit of my clients. More often than not they see no one but me.
Because of insurance issues, I am unable to practise midwifery in most hospitals. I do remain with my clients as their advocate, supporter and friend.
Antenatal Care
In your home at times negotiated with you. As well as checking the well-being of you and your baby, these visits give people the opportunity to explore and discuss aspects of their pregnancy which are important to them. It is also all about getting to know each other and building a relationship so that by the time the baby is born, we are comfortable with each other.
Labour and Birth
I am on-call for you 24 hours a day from the time you book with me and you will have all of your care from me. I support homebirth, waterbirth, VBAC (vaginal birth after caesarean section) and will come into hospital with you if required.
Postnatal Care
I will visit you for up to four weeks after the birth of your baby. I recognise the importance of issues surrounding transition to parenthood as well as more practical support with caring for your baby.
